Warsaw Native Horin Key In Falcons' Backcourt

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Warsaw native Matt Horin will be starting his senior season on the Air Force Academy men's basketball team as a cog in the Falcons' backcourt this season.

Last season, Horin averaged 9.2 points per game, fifth-best on the squad. He ranked among the conference leaders in three-point field goal percentage at .309 and recorded a career-best 17 points againt Adams State.

"Matt has a year of varsity ball under his belt, and I think he'll be more consistent," Air Force coach Reggie Minton said. "What I need from him this season is to be steady with the ball and jump up and hit the open shot."

Horin played on the Air Force reserve team his first two seasons.

Air Force opens its regular season up this Saturday at home against Regis College.

Mike Haines

ANGOLA - Mike Haines competed for the Tri-State men's soccer team in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship recently.

Haines, a Warsaw native, played for the Thunder as they beat Cornerstone College 2-0, but lost to Aquinas College 2-1.

Haines was named to the All-WHAC team. The Thunder finished with a 9-1 conference mark, but the loss to Aquinas prevented them from advancing to the NAIA Great Lakes Regional tournament. They finished 13-6-2 overall.

Ben Christoffel

MUNCIE - Wawasee High School graduate Ben Christoffel will be starting his junior season as a member of the Ball State University men's swimming and diving team.

As a sophomore, Christoffel was a co-recipient of the Most Valuable Swimmer award. He set a school record by swimming on 21 victorious relay teams during the season.

He speciality is the sprint freestyle and breaststroke.
