Warsaw Moving Forward with Certified Technology Park

Posted
Warsaw is moving forward with creating a Certified Technology Park Warsaw City Council heard during its meeting Monday night.

The park is being created in conjunction with the Indiana Economic Development Corp.

The IEDC approved the city’s application at the end of June, and the city still needs to go through the agreement process for the technology park, Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer said.

“The park is a tool set up by IEDC to designate specific areas for high-tech industrial use and gives the city an opportunity to recapture revenues,” he said.

The proposed park will be located on the north side of U.S. 30 along the east and west side of Silveus Crossing and CR 200W and will contain approximately 230 acres of property zoned for industrial development.

The new technology park will allow Warsaw to better position itself to protect, expand and create new high-tech industrial developments within Warsaw.

As Warsaw increases its focus on economic development and its partnership with the IEDC, the Warsaw technology park will provide resources for future job growth, workforce training and development partnering with Ivy Tech, Grace College and the IEDC and by promoting and developing innovative manufacturing technologies.

The technology park will support the city’s ability to develop technology activities within the industrial park.

This will allow the city to possibly fund the construction and operation of a high-tech business incubator, allow the support and development from higher education facilities including Ivy Tech and Grace College.

City planner Jeremy Skinner said it also demonstrates the city’s commitment to post-secondary education including research and development technologies and taking advantage of Warsaw’s unique characteristics and orthopedic industries provided by the public and private resources available within the technology park.

Warsaw Redevelopment Commission and City Council will enter into an agreement with IEDC to create the technology park.

The technology park will allow the city to collect a maximum of $5 million to fund the development of the Warsaw technology park and requires recertification every four years.
