Warsaw Mayor Declares A Public Health Emergency For The CityWarsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer issued a statement Monday night in full support of Governor Eric Holcomb’s executive order for Indiana citizens to stay home.
The order is from 11:59 p.m. today until 11:59 p.m. April 6.
The mayor’s statement, on behalf of the city, states, “We are asking that the Warsaw community not hesitate to enact these very strict measures. We are holding our own. As of today, there are no confirmed cases in Kosciusko County. We must, however, anticipate that it will happen and are being asked to react with these drastic measures to minimize exposure and prevent community spread. This is the only thing we can do to protect ourselves.
“The order is mandatory. It orders all Hoosiers stay at home or in their place of residence to minimize the spread of COVID 19. They may only leave for specified reasons as defined in the executive order.”
See https://www.in.gov/gov/2384.htm to access all of the governor’s executive orders, in particular Executive Order 20-08 that defines essential activities, essential government functions and essential business and operations.
“Nonessential business and operations must cease,” according to the mayor’s statement. “Only essential travel and essential activities are permitted. The Indiana State Police will work with local law enforcement to enforce this order.
“Additionally, I have issued an executive order declaring a public health emergency in the city of Warsaw. While this duplicates what our president and Governor Holcomb have already declared, this local declaration will allow the city the flexibility to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic locally.”
