Posted
PIERCETON – A Warsaw man is dead after being struck by a passing vehicle after crashing his mo-ped Sunday night west of Pierceton.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Dept. deputies and emergency personnel responded to the 5000 block of Pierceton Road, just west of CR 600E, Sunday shortly after 10 p.m. after a report of a mo-ped crash. Responders first on-scene found Brandon D. Hollon, 23, Warsaw, in the roadway with severe injuries after being struck by a passing motorist.
Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team investigators reported that Hollon was travelling west on Pierceton Road and lost control of his mo-ped for an unknown reason and crashed. A witness called 911 and checked on Hollon.
Officers stated that a second vehicle, driven by Lance W. Lucas, 23, Mentone, approached the crash scene heading in his 1999 Jeep Cherokee and swerved to avoid Hollon’s mo-ped that was in the roadway.
As Lucas passed the mo-ped, he inadvertently drove over Hollon, who was lying in the middle of the road.
Kosciusko County Coroner Michael Wilson pronounced Hollon dead on the scene from massive blunt force trauma.
The crash is still under investigation by the Coroner’s office and the Kosciusko County FACT.
The Kosciusko County Coroners’ Office and FACT were assisted by members of the Pierceton Fire Department, Multi-Township EMS, Winona Lake Police Department and the KCSD.
