Warsaw Man Sentenced To 2 Years Probation, Time Served In Domestic Battery Case

A Warsaw man will do no more jail time after being sentenced on three counts related to domestic battery.

John Shepherd Jr., 26, pleaded guilty to two counts of domestic battery and one count of intimidation in three separate cases on Sept. 25. As part of a plea deal, other charges were dismissed.

On Monday, Kosciusko Circuit Court Judge Michael Reed sentenced Shepherd to time already served plus two years probation.

Shepherd was arrested in April after his girlfriend reported he had assaulted her.

On Jan. 4, a woman called 911, screamed and hung up. Upon arriving on the scene, the woman told police that Shepherd had become angry with her and chased her around the house, screaming at her. She called 911 but he ripped the phone out of her hand and started punching her in the face, court documents state.

While meeting with her, the woman told police Shepherd had assaulted her on New Year’s Day with her children watching, according to court records.

That led to two separate sets of charges being filed against Shepherd.

While in jail, police allege Shepherd called the victim and threatened to kill her boyfriend. After that call, Shepherd was charged again for intimidation.

Shepherd said he realizes that he’s 26 and its time for him to become a full-fledged adult.

Reed agreed and said, “Your life has been a mess so far. You’re catching a break here. This will probably be your last chance.”
