When a Mentone man fell overboard Tuesday in Center Lake, a Warsaw man came to his rescue and pulled him from the water.
Harold Konkle told Indiana Conservation officers that he was fishing in a 10-foot row boat on Center Lake shortly after noon. He said when he leaned over one side, the boat flipped over, throwing Konkle into the lake.
When he swam toward his personal flotation device, Konkle said, it slipped away from his grasp, leaving him to swim alone. He started swimming toward the shore, but going through thick weeds along the shore caused him to tire quickly, he told conservation officers.
Gary Miniear said he saw Konkle in trouble and used his own row boat to go out on the lake and rescue Konkle.
A conservation officer said Miniear likely saved Konkle's life. Neither man required medical treatment after the incident.
