A Warsaw man set to be sentenced Thursday for the April 12 rape of a Warsaw woman was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Wednesday afternoon.
Mark D. Dyer, 52, shot himself in the head with a .40 caliber gun at an acquaintance's home. Dyer was last seen Tuesday evening, but the suicide was not discovered until Wednesday afternoon around 12:44 p.m., when the acquaintance Dyer was staying with called the Warsaw Police Department. Dyer did not leave a note giving a reason for the suicide.
Dyer was scheduled to be sentenced in Kosciusko County Circuit Court by Judge Rex Reed Thursday for the rape.
In July, Dyer pleaded guilty to the April rape of a 49-year-old woman who was under the supervision of the Cardinal Center, Warsaw. The offense is a Class B felony. He admitted to committing the crime before being booked into the Kosciusko County Jail earlier this year.
Officials are awating toxicology reports to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the suicide.
Dyer's obituary appears on page 3A.
