A Warsaw man was killed Thursday night in a single-vehicle crash west of Warsaw after striking a utility pole.

Shaun C. Owens, 32, Warsaw, died on the scene from blunt force trauma, according to Kosciusko County Deputy Coroner Mike Wilson.

Emergency personnel responded to a 911 call Thursday at 9:16 p.m. of a vehicular crash on CR 350W just north of CR 200N. Arriving officers located a destroyed 1996 Ford Contour that was in a cornfield on the west side of CR 350W.

Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team officers stated a witness reported Owens had been northbound on CR 350W and had lost control of his vehicle. Owens over-corrected after coming over a small hill and slid off the roadway and into a utility pole.

Owens had been wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, but due to the severity of the impact, he was partially ejected from the vehicle.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash and it is still under investigation, according to members of the Kosciusko County FACT.

According to his Facebook page, Owens was a 1998 Warsaw Community High School graduate.

FACT was assisted at the scene by the Warsaw Police and Fire Departments, Multi-Township EMS, Indiana State Police and the Kosciusko County Coroner and Sheriff’s Departments.
