Police recovered a baseball bat and a kitchen knife near the scene of a battery incident in which a Warsaw man was injured.

According to a Warsaw Police Department report, Jose Louis Benites, East Market Street, Warsaw, suffered a cut to his head that required 13 staples to close. He was treated for his injuries at Kosciusko Community Hospital and later released.

Police said Benites was struck in the head several times with a metal baseball bat, with one of the blows being so hard that it left a blood spray pattern on a vehicle parked nearby. As many as eight people allegedly struck Benites at his residence, where another occupant of the home told police that 20 to 25 people reportedly came running into the house. Benites was sitting on the porch at the time of the 1:12 a.m. Saturday incident.

During the incident, the suspects also put holes in the walls inside the house and broke several windows. Five vehicles parked at the residence also sustained damage. Police estimate total damage to be $8,700.

Benites told police that the assault was possibly gang-related, but said he doesn't belong to a gang. No suspects were located after the incident.
