A Warsaw man was seriously hurt early today after being thrown from his car when he lost control of the sedan.
Police and medics were called around 5:30 a.m. today to a bean field at 5891 N. CR 300W, where 32-year-old Joseph A. Hettinger was found laying near his flipped and battered 1997 Saturn.
Hettinger, of 3762 W. Old Road 30, Warsaw, was airlifted from the scene to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne in what the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department called “serious” condition. It is unknown what injuries Hettinger suffered in the crash.
According to the Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team, Hettinger was northbound on 300W when he lost control of the Saturn. The vehicle rolled some 75 feet before coming to rest on its top in a bean field.
Inside the vehicle, officers found unknown pills and alcoholic beverage containers, the FACT said. That prompted police to request a blood draw from Hettinger at the hospital.
Those results are pending.
The FACT said the crash remains under investigation.
