Warsaw Man Held In Battery

Charges of aggravated battery were filed against a man accused of causing a severe head injury, which resulted in partial paralysis, to his wife.

Patrick David Huppe, 29, of 425 EMS T29 Lane, Warsaw, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail Thursday morning after being served with a warrant at his workplace. Bond was set at $30,000. Huppe was also charged with possession of marijuana for allegedly having a plastic bag containing the contraband in his pocket at the time that he was taken into custody. A $450 bond was set for that offense.

Huppe is accused of injuring his wife, Cindy Huppe, 26, on July 4. Authorities did not know about the incident until being notified by officials from Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne on July 10.

Deputy Charlene Johnson said that the enclosed head injury suffered by Cindy Huppe left her partially paralyzed on her right side and unable to speak. She has begun recovering from her injuries and was released from the hospital on July 19. Johnson said that doctors expect her to fully recover, although she continues to suffer memory loss.

Mrs. Huppe does not recall what happened to her prior to waking up at the hospital, and Mr. Huppe has allegedly related three different stories regarding what happened to his wife.

Huppe reportedly told personnel at Kosciusko Community Hospital - where Cindy Huppe was taken before being transferred to Parkview - that his wife fell in a bathroom while at a party. He later allegedly told friends that he and his wife had gotten into an argument when she ran from their trailer and fell. Johnson said that Huppe told her that he was driving when an argument began and, at one point, he slammed on the brakes. Mrs. Huppe then reportedly went forward, hit her head and went limp.

Although Huppe has told three separate stories, Johnson said, each one has placed him with his wife when she was injured.
