A Warsaw man has been preliminarily charged with murder after allegedly killing a 2-year-old girl.
Police arrested Christopher Grimmett, 29,?of 53 EMS C17 Lane, Warsaw, and charged him with murder early this morning.
Shortly after 5 a.m. today, police found the body of Adalin S. Stamper, 2, buried in a shallow grave in the back yard of a Sue Avenue residence on Warsaw’s west side.
The trail to Sue Avenue began hours earlier when Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to 53 EMS C17 Lane on a call of a custody compliant.
Officers met with Grimmett who said he had been babysitting his girlfriend’s 2–year-old daughter, Adalin, earlier in the day. He claimed the toddler had been picked up earlier in the day by her maternal grandmother.
Police were able to determine that was not true and began to look at Grimmett’s activities earlier in the day. Police were led to Grimmett’s brother’s residence at 1835 Sue Ave., Warsaw.
Grimmett’s brother gave police permission to search the residence and property. Sheriff deputies found a shallow grave in the back yard where they found the body of Stamper, the release states.
The cause of death is still under investigation pending an autopsy.
Grimmett is being held in the Kosciusko?County Jail with no bond.
Grimmett has a previous felony conviction for battery with bodily in waste in 2014.
