A Warsaw man is facing drug charges after a traffic stop Friday led to the discovery of more than 50 grams of methamphetamine.
Donald M. Chadwick Jr., 48, of 242 E. Burkhart Drive, Warsaw, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 1:31 p.m. Friday and faces charges for dealing in methamphetamine, a Level 2 felony; and possession of methamphetamine, a Level 3 felony.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed Monday in Kosciusko Circuit Court, at about 7:45 p.m. Friday a Mentone police officer pulled over a pickup for allegedly speeding and switching lanes without signaling.
Chadwick was the driver and was allegedly nervous and wouldn’t look the officer in the eye, according to the affidavit. A K9 officer was called to the scene and indicated a positive alert for drugs.
Officers searched the vehicle and, according to court papers, located 56.22 grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale with a powdery residue, $1,218 in cash, two black iPhones and numerous empty plastic bags.
According to the affidavit, Chadwick told police he recently dealt meth to two separate people, that he uses methamphetamine, does not have a job and has not had one for more than a year and has been staying in a hotel for the past week.
