Warsaw Man Faces Multiple Domestic Battery ChargesA local man is facing strangulation and battery charges after allegedly throwing his girlfriend on a bed and choking her until she began gagging.
Jacob Allen Hale, 22, of 519 N. Franklin St., Mentone, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 3:37 a.m. Dec. 8 for strangulation and domestic battery. His preliminary bond was set at $5,250.
Court documents filed Thursday list Hale’s address as 2605 E. Center St., Warsaw, and the charges against him as strangulation, a level 6 felony; domestic battery with a child under 16 present, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
On Dec. 8, Warsaw Police Department officer Justin Lewis responded to a domestic dispute, assisted by four other officers.
The victim told officers she and her boyfriend, Hale, were arguing when he became upset and put his hands around her neck, squeezing until she couldn’t breathe. Lewis saw scratches under the victim’s right ear and right shoulder and redness on her neck.
Hale told officers he threw the victim on the bed and began choking her with both hands until she began making gagging noises. When Hale realized she couldn’t breathe, he released his hands from her neck, court documents state.
Two children were in the residence.
A witness told officers she remained with the children in the back bedroom during most of the altercation. When things became extremely loud, the witness entered the room and attempted to stop the fight. As she entered the room, she saw the victim slapping and hitting Hale. Officers saw a cut under Hale’s left eye, which he said was from playing with the children, court documents state.
An initial hearing for Hale is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. Dec. 27.
