Warsaw Man Faces Charges After 2 Attempted Break-Ins At Same HouseA Warsaw man was arrested this week after allegedly trying to break into the same house twice on the same day.

Austin Lee Perkins, 34, of 2886 S. Woodland Trail, Warsaw, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 3:34 p.m. Wednesday for residential entry and criminal mischief. His bond was set at $5,000 surety and $250 cash.

Court documents filed Thursday list the charges against him as two counts of attempted residential entry, level 6 felonies; and criminal mischief, a Class B misdemeanor.

At 12:50 a.m. Wednesday, Warsaw Police Department officer Kelly Bradley responded to a residential entry. A woman told him she was sleeping and heard a sound like glass breaking and found her front door open. She said the door had been locked with a deadbolt.

The woman yelled hello and heard a man’s voice and saw keys in her door. She did not give the man permission to enter her home. The keys did not fit the lock on the door.

Bradley saw the front door and frame had been damaged, for an estimated damage of $750.

At 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers returned to the house when a man – later identified as Perkins – allegedly opened the door into the home without permission.

Officers obtained surveillance video that showed the door at the home. In the video of the first call to officers, they saw Perkins kick the door open and then run from the apartment. On the second call, officers saw Perkins open the door of the residence, peer in and then leave.
