Warsaw Man Faces Arrest After Bar Incident

Warrants for the arrest of a Warsaw man are being requested after an incident at Mad Anthony's Lake City Tap House Wednesday night.

According to a report from the Warsaw Police Department, warrants have been requested for the arrest of Matthew Shively, 25, Buffalo Street, Warsaw, for public intoxication, criminal mischief and criminal recklessness.

Around 10:23 p.m. Wednesday, Shively reportedly had a verbal altercation with another patron and began to yell and curse. A bartender asked Shively to leave and he agreed, but as Shively was walking out of the bar, he stopped at another table and allegedly started to harass another patron.

The patron told Shively to leave, and the men reportedly started to shove each other.

Then the patron reportedly picked Shively up and carried him out of the restaurant.

Once Shively was outside, Mad Anthony's manager Sarah Burcham locked the door. At that time, she said Shively became furious and punched the door, shattering the glass panel.

Shards of glass flew and hit bartender Alan Gottschalk, cutting his tongue, face, mouth and neck. The cut on Gottschalk's tongue required three stitches.

After breaking the door, Shively then allegedly stuck his hand through the broken door and tried to unlock it and push his way in.

When police arrived at the scene, Shively was sitting on a park bench outside the restaurant with blood on his face and hands.

Shively reportedly told police he was in an altercation with another person and broke the front door with his fist. He said he did not hit the door hard.

The officer who responded to the scene said Shively smelled of alcohol and had red watery eyes. Shively's blood alcohol content reportedly was .148.

Shively had a deep cut to his hand, wrist and palm and was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment.

Police gave Shively a voluntary statement form and asked him to fill it out and return it.

Shively, an assistant in the Kosciusko County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, was suspended this morning pending a review of the case.

The incident remains under investigation by the Warsaw Police Department.
