A Warsaw man died late Wednesday night after his mo-ped was rear-ended by a semi on U.S. 30, one mile east of Warsaw.

John R. McDonald, 40, of 3409 W. CR 100S, died at 11:47 p.m., 20 minutes after the accident, from multiple head injuries.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

McDonald was heading west on U.S. 30, reportedly driving with no headlights, when a semi-tractor-trailer struck him in the rear. The semi driver was Charles W. Whipple, 70, of Nelson, Wis.

According to police reports, McDonald was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and his death may have been prevented if he had, in the Indiana State Police Department's opinion.

This accident is under investigation by the Indiana State Police, Bremen District. Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Warsaw Police Department and Multi-Township EMS assisted at the scene.
