One of the men involved in Sunday’s kayak accident at the Collamer dam has died.
Richard Wilson, 31, died Tuesday at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office was unable to provide a cause of death but said it was probably “accidental drowning.”
Wilson attempted to cross over the low head dam just before noon, fell out of his kayak and was unable to escape the boil at the bottom of the 4-foot drop caused by the volume of water rushing over the dam, according to an Indiana Department of Natural Resources news release.
Jacob Anderson, 27, Syracuse, also was airlifted after getting sucked in the current trying to rescue Wilson. Anderson was listed in critical condition late this morning in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
