A Warsaw man is dead following an early-morning accident Tuesday.
Donald E. Ditton, 26, of Warsaw, was pronounced dead at the scene of a one-vehicle accident Tuesday morning.
Around 5:55 a.m. Tuesday, the Kosciusko County Dispatch Center received a call about a vehicle on fire in a cornfield near CR 400N, just west of CR 300W near Warsaw.
According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Ditton was westbound when his 1994 GMC Jimmy left the south side of the road and hit a tree head-on. The SUV came to rest in a cornfield, then caught fire.
When emergency crews arrived, they put out the fire, but Ditton was trapped in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Officials do not know why Ditton's vehicle left the road, and the crash remains under investigation.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department was assisted at the scene by Atwood and Warsaw fire departments, Multi-Township EMS, the Indiana State Police and the Kosciusko County Coroner's Office.
