Warsaw Man Attempts Suicide by Knife

Posted
The parking lot at Kmart was sectioned off and police stood in the middle of the section – waiting for the Samaritan to come.

At 9:40 a.m. Warsaw Police Department received a call of an attempted suicide at Economy Inn, 3521 Lake City Highway, Warsaw.

Upon arrival, Cpl. Wayne Wilke said a Warsaw-area, middle-aged white male unlocked the door for the police. The man had stabbed himself in an attempt to commit suicide, police said.

“He called for help and when we arrived he unlocked the door and was distraught and crying,” Wilke said. “Thankfully he didn't succeed.”

Minutes later authorities called for the Samaritan to pick up the man. During the short time before the Samaritan landed a crowd grew. The more people that drove past the scene, the more cars parked on the outskirts of the makeshift landing pad.

By the time the victim was airlifted to Parkview Fort Wayne there was a crowd of nearly 20 people watching and waiting to find out what had happened.

Warsaw Police Department, Warsaw Fire Department and Multi-Township EMS responded to the incident. The victim was not identified.
