Warsaw Man Arrested On Child Exploitation, Molestation ChargesA Warsaw man was arrested on child exploitation and molestation charges after allegedly recording a girl with his cell phone.

Devan Mikel Adams, 31, of 426 W. Main St., Warsaw, is charged with child molesting, a Level 4 felony; and two charges of attempted child exploitation, Level 5 felonies.

Adams was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 12:14 p.m. June 29. His initial bond was $10,250.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Thursday, on June 29 Warsaw police responded to a juvenile in the lobby of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office needing help.

The victim told police, according to the affidavit, that earlier that morning, Adams went to her room and told her to get up and get dressed. She said she noticed Adams was moving things near her bookcase in her room. She said she later found Adams’ cell phone propped on her bookcase, hidden behind books. The cell phone allegedly was pointing into the room where the victim changed clothes.

The victim told police that when she found the cell phone, she got dressed and came to them. The victim believed the cell phone was put in her room to record her getting dressed.

The victim was taken to the Safe Harbor Advocacy Center for a forensic interview. The victim said finding  the cell phone made her feel afraid. The victim also stated in 2020, she discovered Adams had concealed his phone in the bathroom when she was taking a shower. The victim said she tried to tell her mother about it, but her mother didn’t listen because she was busy, according to the affidavit.

During the interview, the victim also said when she was about 11 or 12, there were times after she would shower that her parents told her she needed to cuddle with them and she couldn’t change into her clothes, according to the affidavit. The victim stated she would be on the couch with Adams and he would place a sheet over them and he would touch her under the sheet. The victim said Adams would lay on his back and he would have the victim lay with her stomach facing his stomach on several occasions, according to the affidavit.

Adams spoke with police and, according to the affidavit, Adams admitted to placing the cell phone in the victim’s room and activating the camera on June 29 in order to record the victim. He said he did it solely to find out what she was doing and why she was taking so much time in the morning.

He also admitted to watching the video.

Adams said he had placed his cell phone in the victim’s bathroom and recorded her getting in and out of the shower.
