Warsaw police arrested a man on a charge of rape Monday.
Mark D. Dyer, 51, of 700 Logan St., Warsaw, is accused of the April 12 rape of a 49-year-old Warsaw woman in her apartment. Dyer was interviewed by police and reportedly admitted the crime before being booked into Kosciusko County Jail on a $10,000 bond. He bonded out shortly after.
The woman is supervised by the Cardinal Center, Warsaw, and first reported the incident to her case worker, who notified police and took her to the hospital.
The woman told police she was attacked after a man knocked on her door and she answered it. She told police he knew her name but she did not know his.
Detective Steve Adang said police narrowed the investigation to Dyer after they were told it was a "Mike" or "Mark," who probably committed the crime. Further investigation revealed that a "Mark" was a work acquaintance one of the woman's neighbors and had accompanied his friend to her apartment on a prior date.
Police contacted the employer and got a full name and description the matched Dyer.
Charges have been forwarded to the Kosciusko County Prosecutors office. Rape, a Class B felony is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
