Warsaw Community Schools was named the 25th best school district in the state by Niche school ranking.
Shelly Wilfong, chief analytics officer, presented the report at the school board meeting Tuesday.
Niche, a website based out of Pittsburgh, Pa., ranks schools based on surveys and data that can be obtained from publicly available information.
In addition to be ranked 25th in the state, WCS is in the top 8 percent nationally and number one in Kosciusko County out of three districts.
In other business, Nate Polston, Leesburg Elementary School principal, presented early plans for the school to begin its Dual Language Immersion program in 2018.
Leesburg received a $50,000 grant to begin the program.
It would be the second program in the district. Eisenhower Elementary already has one.
Leesburg’s program will differ from Eisenhower as it will integrate students who speak both English and Spanish. Polston said the combination is designed to have the students help each other learn the other language.
Polston outlined the plans to get ready for next year’s class.
He said administrators have taken several trips to Utah to learn about the program
“Utah is the gold standard of dual language immersion,” Polston said.
WCS plans on marketing the class and having parent meetings.
Board Member Jeremy Mullins said the program has been amazing for his daughter, who is in the class at Eisenhower.
