Visitors are strongly encouraged to wear a mask and social distance after Kosciusko County’s COVID-19 advisory level moved to “red” on Dec. 8, Warsaw Library Director Ann Zydek told the Warsaw Library Board Monday.
Curbside services are available for patrons, she said.
Zydek said the biggest thing she was trying to watch for was to see if there would be a lot of people that “picked up” the omicron version of COVID-19 and what the library would end up doing if that happened. Zydek said, in essence, it would mean the library staff would try to keep traffic flow upstairs in the library moving as quickly as possible with help from staff downstairs.
The library was able to keep desks open during December for people’s use.
Also, Bruce Hively, facilities manager, and library employee Paul Cleveland installed staff office workspaces for two community outreach employees in the activities room, emptied a study room to turn it into a future Community Outreach Department head office and prepared to soundproof a wall in a children’s services office, Zydek said.
In other business, the Board:
• Approved the 2022 slate of officers as Chris Merrill, president; Barbara Beck, vice president; Jill Beehler, secretary; and Ben Rice, treasurer.
• Learned Rider Electric was at the library Dec. 10 and replaced the light in the west parking lot with a new LED fixture.
• Learned NEW Plumbing and Heat repaired a small leak in the staff kitchenette on Dec. 27.
• Learned children’s librarian technical assistant Duane Herendeen spent three days at Washington STEM Academy presenting on the benefits of having a student library card for kindergartners through third-grade students.
