Warsaw Library Offers 'Make It, Take It' With Beaded Bookmarks, KeychainsPIERCETON - Beaded bookmarks and keychains are items participants can make at a "Make It, Take It" craft event Monday at Warsaw Community Public Library.

Susan Karczewski, owner of Purr-fectly Unique Design Studio & Boutique, will teach the "Make It, Take It" crafts class.

The event is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the library.

The registration fee for the course is $7 to make one item, or two items can be made for $12. People can register the day of the event. The fee covers the cost of supplies.

Karczewski, who has designed jewelry for the past 17 years, opened her business at 126 N. First St., Pierceton, in March 2009.

She has been making jewelry since 199, and first had a studio working out of her home. She moved her business to Pierceton in March 2009.

She is a self-taught artist who learned her skills through books and classes.

"After my second child was born I needed something to do with my mind, so I purchased a book on jewelry making in 1992 and have been doing it ever since," Karczewski said.

Her jewelry has been sold in gift shops, jewelry stores and boutiques in northern Indiana and Michigan.

She has taught jewelry-making classes in Warsaw, Nappanee and Bremen, and is currently teaching continuing education classes at IPFW, Fort Wayne.

She said she travels to other states such as Illinois and Florida to get jewelry pieces for her store.

Karczewski has had jewelry she has made published in the book "Beaded Jewelry - The Complete Guide by Susan Ray."

At her business she sells handcrafted and vintage jewelry, purses, clothing, gift items and outdoor lawn art. She does metal smithing, resin and leather craft, fused glass, wire wrapping, clay and metal smithing.

In the spring she will have an outdoor court yard in the back of the store where people can create jewelry.

Karczewski offers year-round jewelry-making classes for beginners to advanced students at her business. A listing of the classes is available on her store website at www.purr-fectly.com
