Warsaw Library Looking At Increasing Minimum Wage

Posted
Warsaw Library Looking At Increasing Minimum WageWarsaw Community Public Library Director Ann Zydek informed the Library Board Monday that one of the things the library is looking at doing is move the starting compensation up to $12 an hour.

Zydek said that is going to adjust all the levels of hourly employees.

She looked at the cost of living. Zydek said, in Kosciusko County, it is $13.19 for a single person with no children.

It does mean the library can’t add any positions and it’ll be awhile before they will be able to get everyone to $15 an hour, she said.

Board member Tim Keyes said he knows the library has many excellent workers and especially with the “absolute firestorm”  organizations are going through for workers, companies and organizations have to be willing to pay for talent. He said he will always support paying the staff they have correctly.

Zydek also said the library is planning on trying to get the Smithsonian Water/Ways Exhibit at the library, probably closer to the 2021-22 school year.

Zydek said she, Business Manager Renee Sweeny and Public Relations Manger Robin Fosnaugh went to the Chamber’s Watershed Foundation After Hours featuring the Smithsonian Water/Ways Exhibit at the North Webster Public Library on July 22.

“We’ll see how that goes,” Zydek said.

In other business, the Board also:

• Learned the library had an emergency closing July 7 to flush the chiller coil. Zydek said the chiller is better.

• Learned there will be a public budget hearing at their next meeting at 4 p.m. Sept. 13. The budget will be adopted during the Oct. 18 meeting.

• Learned Otis Elevator repaired the elevator door mechanism.
