Warsaw Library Board Learns More About Consortium

Posted
When Warsaw Community Public Library moved from OverDrive to the statewide eBook consortium, patrons made the library the ninth largest library for checkouts that joined the consortium, Library Director Ann Zydek told the Board Monday.

There are 168 libraries in the consortium, she said. The Indiana State Library is still in the process of making the consortium work. Zydek said if a library owns a copy of an eBook, anyone from that library can to get to the top of the list to check it out.

There is still a committee forming that will make extra copies of items when needed for the e-collection, she said.

The Indiana State Library is working out all the kinks as all the libraries in the consortium are blended together, she said. However, patrons are able to get from the old system to the new one for the e-collection.

The library is planning to have more community outreach events with the library recently opening its Community Outreach Department, she said.

One of the things the department did was a LEGO Day during National Library Week last week. Someone created a large LEGO man and children that attended the event wanted their picture taken. Zydek said it was a fun day for the kids that attended.

The department has two full-time people and one part-time person, she said.

In other business, the Board approved updates to the materials collection fees, capital asset and remote work policies.
