With his team controlling its own destiny in the Northern Lakes Conference, Warsaw boys soccer coach Scott Bauer said the Tigers needed to get on a roll.
Thursday evening's game against Goshen was a good start.
Hosting their conference rivals from the Maple City, the Tigers scored a goal in each half and left the City-County Athletic Complex with a 2-0 win on senior night.
At halftime, Warsaw's 13 seniors were honored with their parents.
"These kids have a ton of potential," said Bauer. "My hope for them is to realize their goals by the end of the year. This game in particular was pretty important. We control our destiny in the conference. Actually, right now we're on top. We need to get on a roll."
Thursday evening's win over the Redskins improved the Tigers' overall season record 7-3-2. Warsaw is 2-0-2 in Northern Lakes Conference play. The Tigers are the only team in the NLC without a loss.
"The conference is pretty wide open," said Bauer.
Warsaw put its first goal on the scoreboard with 2:28 remaining in the first half when junior Jordan Sharp blasted a ball past the Goshen keeper.
The Tigers got their second goal 2-1/2 minutes into the second half when senior Adam Wishart headed a ball past the Redskins' goalie.
Although Bauer altered his starting lineup to allow some of his seniors to start, he said he thought his team played some good soccer.
"Considering we wanted to make sure we started our seniors, I thought despite that we put together some nice soccer," said Bauer. "Goshen is a decent side. I hope they do well the rest of the season."
Warsaw will be in action again Saturday when it travels to Argos.
Following that contest, the Tigers are scheduled to play at NLC foe Northridge Sept. 29 and at conference rival Wawasee Oct. 1.
Warsaw will then finish the regular season with a home contest Oct. 4 against NLC opponent Plymouth.
Sectional action begins Oct. 11 at Argos.
