NORTH MANCHESTER - Shooting close to coach Chris LaLonde's target score, Warsaw's varsity girls golf team was able to put distance between itself and host Manchester Thursday.
"I thought if we got four 45s or got around 180 we'd be in good shape," said LaLonde. "We were four strokes off. I'm not too disappointed. This course can be tricky. It was good for the girls to play on different greens. The greens were hard because of no rain. The girls need to learn to adjust to that because if we don't get rain, all the courses will be like that."
With five seniors in the lineup, the Tigers closed out regular-season play by shooting a 184 Thursday at Sycamore Golf Club in North Manchester. The host Squires shot 218 as a team.
"We went with all seniors tonight," said LaLonde. "It was kind of a senior night on the road. It was another chance to buckle down and think about where they need to hit shots before NLCs and the sectional."
Junior Emily Johnson, who golfs in the No. 1 spot for Warsaw, was out of the varsity lineup. The Tigers, who will put their undefeated Northern Lakes Conference record on the line Saturday in the NLC Match at Maplecrest in Goshen, were led by match medalist Elena Duncan's 44.
Twins Jenny and Laura Manning shot 46s for the Tigers, while Megan Krizmanich shot 48 and Erica Schori shot 49.
Holly Vogel led Manchester with a 51, while Taylor Leonhard and Stephani King shot 55, Audrey Siebrase shot 57 and Megan Hicks shot 59.
The 34-stroke win improved Warsaw's overall season record to 11-2. The NLC Match is slated to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Manchester will compete in the Three Rivers Conference Match Saturday.
Both Warsaw and Manchester will compete Sept. 17 in the sectional at Stonehenge.
