Warsaw Golf Team Wraps Up NLC Play At 7-0 To Lead Roundup

The sixth-ranked Warsaw boys golf team wrapped up its third undefeated Northern Lakes Conference season in three years Thursday night at Stonehenge Golf Club in Warsaw. Shooting a 140 on the par-35 front nine, Warsaw defeated NorthWood’s 157 and Goshen’s 174. Jon Schram was the medalist of the night, shooting a two-under 33, while defending state champion Tyler Ostrom and Tim Ahlersmeyer each shot par. Also for the Tigers, Bennett Hollar finished with a 37 and Viraj Gokhale celebrated Senior Night with a varsity start and a 39 on the course. Warsaw’s junior varsity shot a 155 on the course, and against other NLC varsity teams this season, would have gone 6-1 and finished second in the conference behind the Tigers varsity team. The NLC Tournament will be at Bent Oak Golf Club in Elkhart Saturday. Playing at Elkhart’s Bent Oak Golf Club Thursday, the Wawasee boys golf team suffered two Northern Lakes Conference losses. Wawasee’s 181 lost out to Concord’s 164 and Plymouth’s 177, leaving the Warriors with a 1-6 NLC mark. In defeat, Wawasee was led by Derek Zurcher’s 39, which was good for medalist honors. The teams return to Bent Oak Saturday for the NLC Meet. In a three-way, Three Rivers Conference boys golf meet at Mill Creek Golf Course in Rochester, the Tippecanoe Valley Vikings led the way. Playing on their home course, Valley shot a 168, followed by Whitko’s 174 and Manchester’s 183, while nonconference opponent Lakeland Christian Academy shot a 191. On the par-36 course, Manchester’s Tyler Watson was the medalist with a 39, while Valley’s Teddy Shepherd and Danny Zawlocki each shot a 40. Valley will be at the Peru Tournament Saturday. The Warsaw baseball team’s losing streak reached six games following Thursday night’s 11-9 Northern Lakes Conference home loss to Elkhart Memorial. The Tigers had a 5-0 lead after two innings, then led again 9-3 after four, but couldn’t sustain it. Shay Hepler had three hits in the loss, including a triple, while Jake Speicher hit a double. Warsaw is 10-15 overall and wrapped up is NLC season at 5-9. The Tigers host their own tournament Saturday. The Warsaw softball team closed its Northern Lakes Conference season out with a 7-1 win at Elkhart Memorial Thursday night. Kelsey Dotson hit her ninth home run of the season in the win, while she also hit a double, as did Kendra Marshall and Kaleigh Speicher. Warsaw is at Tippecanoe Valley tonight before traveling back to Memorial for the opening game of sectionals Monday. Leading 9-4 going into the seventh inning, Manchester gave up five in the top of the seventh, but came back to score another in the bottom of the frame, getting the win and improving to 10-12. Kalene Freshour led the Lady Squires with three hits, while Nina Smith had two hits and two RBIs. Manchester hosts Winamac today.
