Warsaw Girls Track Completes Unbeaten Conference Season

DUNLAP – The Warsaw Lady Tigers completed an undefeated dual meet season with wins over NorthWood 108-24 and Concord 94-38 Tuesday night. One school record was broken at the start of the meet and another tied at the end. Samantha Alexander narrowly missed the long jump record on her second attempt, but on her third effort she jumped 17-10, breaking Rachel Voorhorst's record of 17-7.5 set in 2007. In the next to last individual race, Audrey Rich got out to a fast start in the 200 and equaled the school record of 25.83 set by Mercedes Plummer in 2006. Nicole Eckert turned in the eighth best time in the state in the 300 hurdles. Warsaw also got wins from Mariah Harter in the 100, Rebecca Lemon in the pole vault, Alexie Day in the high jump, Brooke Rhodes in the 400, Nicole Eckert in the 300 hurdles and Emily Bailey in the shot put. Next up for the Lady Tigers, now 10-0 on the season and 7-0 Northern Lakes Conference, is the NLC meet at Fisher Field on Tuesday. Tuesday in Syracuse Wawasee got a sweep in the discus, and 2-3-4 finishes in the 100-meter dash, but still fell to Plymouth 74.5-57.5 and Goshen 68-64 at Warrior Field Monday. Hannah Winters won the discus with a throw of 107 feet, 9 inches. Brooklyn McCulloch, Alexis Manges and Courtney Linnemeier completed the sweep for the Lady Warriors. Skylar Janda was second in the 100 turning in a time of 13.42. Leigh-Anne Shrack was right behind her in third, and Catherine Yankosky finished fourth, but was just over a tenth of a second shy of finishing second. Other winners for Wawasee were Kaitlyn Kennedy in the shot put and Maddie Birch in the 3200. The 4x100 relay team of Shrack, Skylar Janda, Sarah Lancaster and Yankosky also won. Tennis Tuesday in Nappanee The matchup between Warsaw and NorthWood is currently tied at two matches each, with a third in progress when rain and lightning brought the meet to a halt. The deciding match in No. 2 singles, between Warsaw’s Collette Smith and NorthWood’s Hannah Walter, was stopped during a first-set tiebreaker with Smith leading 4-2. That match will resume Tuesday. Warsaw got straight set wins from Liza Lewis at No. 3 singles, and from Athena Schlott and Sydney Hartman at No. 2 doubles. Warsaw will travel to Culver Academies on Thursday. Golf Tuesday in N. Manchester Northfield scored a pair of Three Rivers Conference golf wins, carding a 161 to Manchester’s 179 and host Whitko’s 180 at Sycamore Golf Course. Connor Eichenauer led the Squires with a 41, with Rainer Borgman two shots back. Will Peters and Cole Bechtold each recorded 42s to lead Whitko. All three teams will see each other again Saturday at the Northfield Invitational in Wabash.
