DUNLAP - Fueled by a new meet record and two first-place finishes, the Warsaw Community High School girls swim team finished second in Saturday's Northern Lakes Conference Meet at Concord.
The Tiger foursome of Melissa Dick, Alexis Hollar, Katy Taylor and Tracy Thallemer set a new NLC Meet record in the 200 freestyle with their first-place time of 1:40.85. Their time broke the previous meet record-time of 1:42.88 set by Goshen in 2000.
Dick had Warsaw's only other first-place finish of the meet, winning the 50 freestyle in a time of 25.00 seconds, finishing just ahead of Hollar, who swam to a runner-up time of 25.66 seconds.
Northridge claimed first-place finishes in six of the meet's 12 events, taking the team title with a total of 344 points.
The Tigers were second with 280 points, followed by Goshen (178), Wawasee (174), Concord (128), Plymouth (116), Elkhart Memorial (83) and NorthWood (32).
En route to the their team title, the Northridge Raiders took first place in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 400 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay and 200 individual medley.
Goshen had two first-place finishes, with Rosabeth Koehn winning the diving competition and Erika Sutliff finishing first in the 100 breaststroke.
Plymouth also had two first-place finishes, as Liz Hoffer won both the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.
Other strong finishes for the Tigers included runner-up efforts by Hollar, Taylor, Munsch and Dick in the 200 medley relay (1:5.62), Tara Stayer in diving (312.55), Karli Slater in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.24) Dick in the 100 freestyle (:56.17).
Wawasee's highest finish of the meet came from sophomore Krista Spearman, who finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:11.93, just behind the winning time of 1:11.20 swam by Goshen's Erika Sutliff.
First-place individuals or teams in each event are automatically named first-team All-Northern Lakes Conference.
Named at-large selections were Stayer, Wawasee's Jessie Spearman and Northridge's Adrienne Andrews.
On the honorable mention list are Munsch and Slater of Warsaw, Wawasee's Leigh Froebe and Krista Spearman, Concord's Gabby Ziebold and Julie Elmore, Elkhart Memorial's Anna Zuchowski, Goshen's Sarah Fink and Northridge's Lyndsey McBride.
