Peter Lucht admitted the play in Monday evening’s varsity girls soccer game wasn’t the prettiest. Warsaw’s first-year coach, however, said the outcome was beautiful. On a night Warsaw honored its seniors, the Lady Tigers got a pair of goals from junior Brooklyn Jackson as they hosted and defeated the Fort Wayne Northrop Lady Bruins 2-0. “I feel very fortunate to get a 2-0 win,” said Lucht. “We had to overcome some adversity, but the whole team fought and battled. I’m very proud of them.” Warsaw improved to 6-2-2 on the season, while Northrop fell to 6-4. “It wasn’t the prettiest, but it’s a win,” said Lucht. “It wasn’t our most technically sound game, but ending the night with a 2-0 victory is absolutely beautiful.” Jackson scored her first goal on a penalty kick in the 32nd minute of action after being taken down in the box. She also scored on a 30-yard free kick in the 58th minute. “Brooklyn Jackson is our leading goal scorer,” said Lucht. “I believe that’s the third time this season she’s scored on a free kick like that.” Northrop had chances to score, but the Lady Bruins couldn’t get a shot past Warsaw senior keeper Abby Schue. “Abby Schue is a phenominal person and player,” said Lucht. “If she’s not the top keeper in the state, she’s definitely one of them. She’s a phenominal leader, not only by her words, but also her actions.” Lucht also spoke highly of seniors Zoe Smyth and Vanessa Malagon. While the Lady Tigers won the game, they may have lost Malagon. The senior defender left the game with a knee injury, and Lucht was worried about the severity of it. “My heart goes out to Vanessa Malagon,” said Lucht. Warsaw is in action again Thursday at Columbia City.
