Warsaw Girls Advance To XC State Finals

NEW CARLISLE – Once again, Warsaw's young girls cross country team ran like a group of veterans.
The sixth-ranked Lady Tigers, with its lineup of a freshman, two sophomores and three juniors, finished third among 20 teams in Saturday's New Prairie Semistate.
The top six teams, as well as the top 10 individuals not on an advancing team, qualify for Saturday's state finals in Terre Haute.
Warsaw, led by sophomore Allison Miller's fourth-place individual time of 19:11, had five girls finish in the top 41 of the 171-person girls 5K race and scored 102 points.
West Lafayette, led by the one-two finish of Lauren Johnson and Kristen Johnson, won the team title with 44 points, while Lake Central (92), Warsaw (102), Valparaiso (109) Portage (142) and LaPorte (156) also earned berths in the state finals.
Crown Point finished seventh with 226 points, followed in the top 10 by Chesterton (227), Lafayette Harrison (313) and New Prairie (319).
Along with Miller, Warsaw's lineup inluded freshman Mia Beckham (21st, 19:56), junior Emma Hayward (24th, 19:59), junior Brooke Rhodes (26th, 20:05), junior Hannah Dawson (41st, 20:23) and sophomore Charlene Orr (64th, 20:50).

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Saturday in New Carlisle
Warsaw's boys cross country team competed in Saturday's New Prairie Semistate, but missed out on advancing to the state finals in Terre Haute. The top six teams, as well as the top 10 individuals not on an advancing team, qualify for the state meet. The Tigers, led by Owen Glogovsky's 36th-place time of 17:02, finished eighth out of 20 teams with 273 points. West Lafayette won the team title with 35 points, while Munster, Crown Point, Valparaiso, Lake Central and Lafayette Jeff also advanced.

Wawasee’s Zach Cockrill competed in the New Haven Semistate Saturday, finishing 112th in a time of 18:14. Cockrill was competing as an individual, as the Warriors didn’t advance from the regional.
