Jeremiah Heierman filed Wednesday afternoon for the Warsaw City Council District 4 seat.
Filing ends Friday at noon.
The seat is currently held by Jerry Patterson, who previously announced he is not seeking re-election.
Heierman, 710 N. Lake St., who is currently a Republican precinct committeeman, previously applied for the Kosciusko County Republican chairman seat, but was defeated by Randy Girod.
It is Heierman's first time for seeking a political office.
Heierman said two years ago he became interested in politics.
Heierman helped form Kosciusko Silent No More, and previously served as the organization's vice president. His father, Jim, now holds that position.
Heierman said, if elected to the city council, he looks forward to representing his constituents and learning their needs and being a voice for them.
He was born and raised in Leesburg, and he and his wife started their home in 1999 at their Lake Street address.
Heierman was laid off in March 2010 during a downturn in the economy from Ligonier-based automotive company, Guardian, where he was employed for 13 years.
He founded a marketing and advertising consulting firm, and is an independent sign consultant.
Heierman said he appreciates living so close to downtown Warsaw and the access the downtown provides to restaurants and parks.
He also said he appreciates the updates the city has done in the downtown such as street improvements, business renovations, and crosswalk upgrades and tree and flower plantings.
"All of these things bring energy and life back to the downtown," Heierman said.
He said, if he is elected, he would like to continue to be a part of making the improvements to the downtown.
"I think those who serve on the city council have done a phenomenal job and I respect them, and I would be happy to help be able to fill their shoes and accomplish what they have," Heierman said.
