Warsaw Education Foundation Awards Nearly $7,000 In Grants

The Warsaw Education Foundation recently awarded nearly $7,000 in Red Apple Grants to eight teachers from six different Warsaw Community Schools.
Red Apple Grants are awarded to teachers for classroom projects as well as schoolwide projects that advance enrichment opportunities, support innovative and inventive teaching, and promote academic exploration.Red Apple Grants awarded for the 2008-2009 school year are:
Pardee Gunter, Washington Elementary, for his Multi-Media Project Based Learning environment for Language Arts to encourage student engagement, increase hands-on learning and improve students' technical, collaborative and leadership skills.
Amanda Scroggs, Warsaw Community High School, for her Writing Center project to train peer tutors to successfully coach and guide other students through the writing process.
Dan Wray, Lakeview Middle School, for his Studying Green Technologies project to help students conduct their own research of alternative energy possibilities such as solar, wind, hydroelectric and hydrogen.
Lorinda Kline, Edgewood Middle School, for her Enrichment Math Camp for 6th-, 7th-, and 8th-grade students who enjoy exploring higher level mathematical concepts with the desire to pursue a career in engineering, science, teaching or business.
Michelle Yantz, Julie Martin and Kelli Hepler, Eisenhower Elementary, for their Creating and Authoring a Book project which teaches students different writing genres as they author, illustrate and assemble their own hardbound book.
Sarah Steele, Harrison Elementary, for her Books to Home project to increase English/Language Arts proficiency in bilingual students by providing bilingual literature for them to read at home with parental support.
Founded in 1987, the Warsaw Education Foundation has awarded nearly $200,000 in grants to teachers in Warsaw Community Schools through the Red Apple Grant Program.
