Warsaw Edged Out For CMA Golf Invitational Team Title

CULVER – Warsaw shot a season-low 300 at the Culver Military Invitational Saturday, but still fell one shot short of South Bend St. Joseph’s 299 for the team title at the tournament.
The Tigers’ Ryan Cultice was second overall, shooting a 75. Jonny Hollar was tied for third at 76, and Brandon Eckert was tied for sixth with a 78.
Wawasee finished sixth with a 314, five shots away from a third-place finish. The Warriors were led by Tristen Atwood’s 78 and Jeffrey Moore’s 80.
Triton wound up 12th overall with a 334. Jordan Anderson paced the Trojans with an 80, followed by Greg Music’s 83.

Tennis
Saturday in Bremen
Four of Triton’s five entries made the championship round, and two of those claimed titles as Triton won the final Northern State Conference girls tennis tournament title.
Kaelyn Mason was the No. 1 singles titlist, beating Alexa Harshbarger of Bremen and Brittany Fletcher of Knox along the way. Kylie and Kolbie Mason teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles title, beating Katie Simmons and McKenzie Leed of LaVille in three sets for the NSC title.
The Lady Trojans’ Shayla May finished second at No. 1 singles, dropping a three-set match to Bremen’s Andrea Streher in the championship round. At No. 2 doubles, Quinn Downing and Emma Ross finished second, beating Erin Scott and Katie Beron of Jimtown in the semis before losing to Shealyn Atkins and Liz Lawmaster of Bremen in straight sets.
Hannah Wanemacher finished third at No. 3 singles, shutting out Courtney Whitaker of Knox 6-0, 6-0  in her last match of the tourney.
Bremen, the regular season conference champion, was second in the tournament.

Friday in Plymouth
Concord won its first Northern Lakes Conference girls tennis title in 36 years, edging out runner-up Warsaw 45-39 for the championship.
The Lady Tigers got tournament wins from Collette Smith at No. 2 singles and Ella Knight at No. 3 singles. Sydney Hartman & Athena Schlitt took fourth overall at No. 2 doubles. Liza Lewis finished fifth at No. 1 singles, as did the duo of Camielle Kerlin and Hannah Rice at No. 1 doubles.
Wawasee did not win a match in the tournament.
Wawasee will travel to Whitko for a match this afternoon in the regular season finale for both teams, and each will play in the Warsaw Sectional beginning Wednesday.

Saturday in Culver
Tippecanoe Valley split a pair of games in the Culver Invitational, beating Northwestern 6-2 and dropping a 10-5 decision to Westview.
In the win over Northwestern, Valley outhit the Tigers 12-6. Luke Helton was 3 for 4 with a triple and two runs scored. Jarred Littlejohn and Drake Hyden were each 2 for 3 with a double, and Austin Perdieu had a pair of singles and drove in three. Brandon Webster went the distance on the mound for the win, allowing two earned runs and striking out four.
Against Westview, Valley outhit the Warriors 8-7, but were charged with five errors in the contest. Webster and Gabe Harlan had a apir of hits each for the Vikings.
Valley will travel to greater Wabash this afternoon to take on Northfield in Three Rivers Conference action.
Softball
Saturday in Bourbon
Lexee Lemler, Heather Stichter and Hannah Jennings had two hits each in Triton’s 10-3 home win over Plymouth Saturday.
Courtney Jennings was the winning pitcher, going all seven innings, striking out one.
The lady Trojans play their last Northern State Conference road game at Culver Community this afternoon.

Saturday in Kokomo
Manchester lost a marathon of a softball game to Taylor, 5-4 in 15 innings Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Squires scored once in the third inning, twice in the fourth and once more in the fifth to knock out Taylor starter Rachel Hafley after she pitched the first 3-1/3 innings.
Taylor’s Shaelah Eliason was the hero for the Lady Titans, getting the win in the circle with 11-2/3 innings of relief, striking out 21 in the process. She also had five of Taylor’s 12 hits, including a pair of doubles, a home run, two runs scored and a pair of runs driven in.
Brooklyn Howard pitched the first 14 innings for Manchester, throwing 240 pitches with 145 for strikes. Mattie McKee wound up taking the loss, but she did have the team’s only extra base hit.
Manchester is set to return to the road this afternoon with a trip to Denver for a Three Rivers Conference game with North Miami.
