Warsaw Downtown Prepares For Spooktakular

Posted

Downtown Warsaw will be overrun with ghosts, goblins, witches, ballerinas, comic book characters and many other disguises during the annual Halloween Spooktakular scheduled for Oct. 28.

During the event, children ages 12 and under are invited to trick-or-treat around the downtown area from 6 to 7 p.m. Early trick-or-treating will not be allowed.

"We always have a good turnout for Spooktakular," WCDC director Carmen Locke said. "Tons of kids dressed up in great costumes having fun around downtown - it's a good time for everybody."

Locke said past Spooktakulars have seen more than 900 children costumed and trick-or-treating around the area.

The Warsaw Community Development Corp., Miller's Merry Manor and the Warsaw Optimist organized the festive evening, and will be handing out gift bags to all children that register their costumes. Registration begins at 5:30 in the courthouse lawn.

Spooktakular also will hold a costume contest inside of a courthouse tent, beginning at 7 p.m. Judging will award prizes in three different categories in various age groups. Grand prizes also will be awarded for each age group.

"Local businesses should be given a lot of credit, too," Locke said. "They'll be doing the treating for the night."

Street closings for Spooktakular will be announced after the Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety discusses and/or approves the requests.
