Warsaw Couple Face Felony Charges After Alleged Child AbuseA Warsaw couple were arrested recently after hospital staff discovered one of their dependents had injuries indicative of abuse.

Ashlie Brianne Bright, 32, of 1692 E. CR 200N, Warsaw, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 5:30 p.m. Monday for neglect of a dependant resulting in serious bodily injury, a level 5 felony. Her preliminary bond was set at $10,250.

Franklin Paul Bright, 34, same address, was arrested and booked into the KCJ at 3:43 a.m. July 8 for neglect of a dependant resulting in serious bodily injury. His preliminary bond was set at $10,250.

According to court documents filed Friday, on July 7 Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputy Chris Rager was dispatched to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. Child Protective Services requested Rager regarding a possible case of child neglect.

When Rager arrived, he was told Ashlie was in the hospital giving birth. The father of the child, Franklin, arrived with the other children that live with him and Ashlie. One child, a dependant of Franklin and Ashlie, had multiple injuries that hospital staff were concerned about.

It was decided that the child would be examined by an emergency room physician, Dr. Scott Wolfe. He found multiple injuries, including bruises and cuts, that covered the child’s body. Wolfe determined the injuries were inflicted and indicative of abuse and should have received medical attention.

On July 8, Rager interviewed Franklin about the child’s injuries. He gave explanations about multiple injuries on the child’s body. He said he took the child to the hospital for some of the injuries at Parkview Hospital in Warsaw. It was later learned that the child had not been admitted to the hospital since November.

Then on July 9, Rager interviewed three other dependants of Franklin and Ashlie. They were able to explain many of the injuries on the first child. Two of the dependants said the child was not taken to the hospital, contrary to what Franklin reported, the court documents state.

Child Protective Services provided paperwork that stated there has been 25 cases or assessments on reports of neglect that name Franklin or Ashlie as the perpetrator. The reports come from multiple different sources.
