Warsaw Christian Visits Tippecanoe Battlefield

Posted

The fourth-grade class of Warsaw Christian School traveled to Tippecanoe Battlefield, near Lafayette, to learn more about their Indiana history on an actual site. Many white settlers lived in the region, trading at the fort known as Keth-tip-pe-can-nunk. General William Henry Harrison’s army of 1,000 men fought Native Americans at Tippecanoe. The Battle of Tippecanoe is considered by many to be one of the opening battles of the War of 1812. An 85-foot marble monument was built to commemorate General Harrison, who later became President Harrison for a very short time. A historic display of 51 long guns and firearms also was viewed. Tour guides told the stories of both cultures involved in this historic event of Indiana history.
