Warsaw Christian Fourth Grade At Tippecanoe Battlefield

Posted

Fourth-graders from Warsaw Christian School stand at the base of an 85-foot marble monument commemorating General William Henry Harrison, who later became president, at the Tippecanoe Battlefield, near Lafayette. Early Native Americans first inhabited the land there. When white settlers moved into the region, they traded at the fort known as Keth-tip-pe-can-nunk. Later, as more conflicts ensued between Native Americans and the white settlers, Harrison’s army of 1,000 men fought Native Americans at Tippecanoe, led by ‘the Prophet.’ The Battle of Tippecanoe is considered by many to be one of the opening battles of the War of 1812. The students also learned about both cultures at this time in Indiana history.
