Warsaw BZA OKs Variances, Exception

Posted

The Warsaw Board of Zoning Appeals, in an abbreviated meeting Monday, approved two variances and one special exception to the city zoning ordinance.

The board approved a request from Gene Lemaster, 522 S. Washington St., for a side yard setback variance on a new garage he plans to build on his corner lot. According to city planner Jeff Noffsinger, the city code requires a 20-foot side yard setback for permanent structures. The garage would only be setback 15 feet from the property line. There were no remonstrators.

The board approved a request by Steve Waldeck, 1215 E. Center St., for a special exception allowing for a home occupation.

The request was approved with a provision that no outside signage would be permitted.

The board granted Bill Haldewang an extension of the use variance for his property at 201 Poor Drive.

The exception allows for a commercial use in a portion of the building that is located in an industrially zoned area. The city requires that special exceptions be renewed every six months, Noffsinger said.

Finally, the Lighthouse Baptist Church withdrew a use variance petition for their facility at 402 Leiter Dr.

The next board meeting will be 7 p.m. Sept. 28 in the council chambers.
