Does your child show an interest in law enforcement?
If so, then enroll them in the "Law Enforcement in Action Day" sponsored by the Warsaw Breakfast Optimists. The event is Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kosciusko County Justice Building and courthouse.Applications, which are available at the front lobby of the Kosciusko County Justice Building, the Warsaw Police Department and many elementary schools, should be turned in to Sam Whitaker at the Kosciusko County Justice Building, 121 N. Lake St., Warsaw, IN 46580, no later than Friday.
The Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club works with Kosciusko County Sheriff Rocky Goshert and Warsaw Police Chief Perry Hunter and other local police agencies to give children ages 6 to 16 the opportunity to see the law enforcement system at work.
Participants in the Law Enforcement in Action Day will get hands-on experience with law enforcement agencies through various activities. Students will experience the colors being displayed by the Kosciusko County Color Guard, participate in self-defense tactics, see firearms and stun gun demonstrations, observe crime scene investigation and fingerprinting and see and sit inside a patrol vehicle. Also, participants will watch a SWAT Team exercise, a dog demonstration, eat an inmate lunch and tour the Kosciusko County Jail and the Kosciusko County Dispatch Center.
Scheduled speakers include Goshert, Hunter and others.
The goal of the program is to create a better relationship between young people and law enforcement as well as give students a chance to see what a law enforcement career can entail.
