OSCEOLA – Warsaw’s boys track team kicked off its 2015 season with an 82-50 win over the Penn Kingsmen Tuesday night. First-place finishers were Owen Glogovsky in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, Andy Scheidt in the discus, Brock Riley in the high jump, Rashaan Jackson in the long jump, Riley Rhoades in the 400, Ross Armey in the 300 hurdles, Daniel Messenger in the 800 and Ben Plummer in the shot. The 4x100 relay team of Nick Light, Brandon Reinholt, Lucas Cone, Ross Armey, and the 4x400 relay team of Andrew Mevis, D'Andre Street, Landan Perry and Rhoades were also victorious. Reinholt also finished second in the 100, as did Street in the 400. Other second place finishers were Caleb Klusman in the 110 hurdles, Daniel Messenger in the 1600, Dylan Childers in the discus, Tommy Hickerson in the long jump, and Dylan Childers in the shot. Third-place finishers were Light in the 100, Armey in the 110 hurdles, Joseph Harness in the high jump, Caleb Klusman in the 300 hurdles, Landan Perry in the 200 and Steven Reinholt in the pole vault. The Tigers will not compete again until April 16, when they host Goshen and Elkhart Memorial.
Track And Field Tuesday in N. Manchester Manchester split the two home track meets with Central Noble Tuesday, with the girls team dropping a 63-60 decision and the boys winning 74-48. Antonia Holzman and Abby Smith finished 1-2 in the long jump, with Rae Bedke and Emily Lynn doing likewise in the 1600. Madison Isbell won the shot and took third in the discus. Other winners were Natasha Niccum in the 3200 and Bedke in the 800. The 4x100 relay team also won. The boys team got 1-2 finishes from Jacob Casper and Cole Isbell in the discus, Casper and Codi Hutchinson in the shot and Elistel Guerrero and Daniel Griese in the 400. Colin McNeeley was a double winner, taking the 100 and 200. Thomas Rohr also won twice, breaking the tape in the 1600 and 3200 races. Jon Rich won the 800 for the Squires. Both teams are now off until April 14 when they host Wabash and Rochester. Baseball Tuesday in Crown Point Warsaw scratched out just four hits in a 7-0 season-opening loss to Crown Point. The home team did its damage in the middle innings, getting two runs in the third and fifth along with three in the fourth. Ethyn Bradley, Ryan Marshall and Cole Baker had singles and Tyler LaFollette doubled for the Tigers. LaFollette took the loss in 3-1/3 innings of work. Softball Tuesday in Syracuse Megan Fretz went 4-4 and Hannah Haines went 3-4 in Wawasee’s 14-4 win over West Noble. Allissa flores scored four times for the Lady Warriors. Wawasee scored five times in the home half of the first and led 7-1 after two. They scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game on the run-rule. Every Lady Warrior starter but one scored at least one run. Now 2-0 on the season, Wawasee plays the first of four straight road games at 5 p.m. Thursday when they travel to Elkhart Central. Tuesday in Bunker Hill Abby Betten had three hits and Katie Prater added two more in Tippecanoe Valley’s 3-2 loss to Maconaquah. Valley scored once in the first inning, and Maconaquah contered with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth. The Lady Vikings rallied for another run in the top of the seventh before being turned away. Now 0-2 on the season, the Vikings are off until April 13 when they will travel to Triton.
Girls Tennis Tuesday in Syracuse Thanatcha Thanasrivanitchal and Chelsea Carolus won singles matches, with brooke Fick and Kabrea Rostochak teaming to win their doubles match in leading Wawasee to a 3-2 win over Lakeland.
