Warsaw's boys soccer team won its third straight match, blanking Wawasee on Saturday.
Warsaw's offense seems to have righted itself. After scoring three goals the first six games, the Tigers have scored 15 goals their last three games.
Against Wawasee, Matt LaFountain scored off of a Brett Dickerson assist less than two minutes into the game. Kyle Smith, Martin Barlhacher and Phil Hood each added goals to give Warsaw a 4-0 halftime lead.
Hood added his second goal and Warsaw's fifth goal 11 minutes into the second half.
A strong defensive effort, along with solid mid-field ball control, helped Matt Brown record a shutout on only five Wawasee shots on goal.
Warsaw improved to 3-5-1 overall and 2-1 in the NLC. Wawasee dropped to 2-7 overall and 1-1 in the NLC.
"For a team that has won only twice before us, I would be surprised if (Warsaw) loses that many more the balance of the season," Wawasee coach Paul Boyd said. "Warsaw is a good team. Today Wawasee was not a good team."
Warsaw beat Wawasee 2-1 in the junior varsity match.
Wawasee is at Goshen at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Warsaw hosts South Bend St. Joe at the CCAC at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Girls: Warsaw 5, East Noble 0
At Kendallville, Warsaw's girls soccer team moved its record to 9-0-2 with a Saturday shutout against East Noble.
Rachel Buhrt put the Tigers on the board first as she connected with a penalty kick. Bobbi Wildman added the second goal 10 minutes laters to give Warsaw the 2-0 halftime lead.
Mandi Bruggeman added two quick goals from her left wing position as Warsaw opened a commanding lead early in the second half. Jodi Wildman tacked on the last goal.
Warsaw has outscored opponents 41-9 this season. The Tigers have recorded five shutouts with goalkeeper Sarah Barber.
Warsaw's junior varsity team (3-3-1) downed East Noble 6-2. East Noble took the lead five minutes into the game, but Carlie Shaffer tied the game four minutes later off a Hillary Barlow pass. Shaffer finished with a hat trick, adding two more goals. Ashley Woodward, Kady Clevenger and Jenell Hawley added goals on assists by Woodward, Hawley and Amanda Bonham. Warsaw had 17 shots on goal the second half. East Noble finished with only three shots on goal for the game.
Warsaw's varsity team has a 5 p.m. Tuesday game at Huntington North.
Warsaw's junior varsity team has a game with Huntington at the CCAC at 5 this evening.
Cross Country
Wawasee Places Fourth
At Ligonier, Wawasee's boys cross-country team placed fourth out of 28 teams in Saturday's West Noble Invitational.
"We were just 11 points from third-place Northfield, a team recently ranked ninth in the state," Wawasee coach Dave Stookey said. "Once again, the guys did an outstanding job."
Pete Melendez turned in Wawasee's top time, finishing 14th out of 159 runners with a time of 17:24.
Wawasee, 6-2, hosts Concord at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Manchester, Triton, Warsaw Compete At New Prairie
At New Carlisle, Manchester and Triton's cross-country teams competed in the New Prairie Invitational (Class A) on Saturday. Warsaw competed in the Class AA division.
Northridge won the girls' race (Class A) with 48 points, while Wheeler won the boys' race (Class A) with 68 points.
The Triton boys placed fourth out of 32 teams, while the Triton girls placed 10th out of 32 teams.
Triton's Mason McIntyre placed fourth with a time of 16:57, while teammate Shelly Miller placed third with a time of 15:49.
Manchester's boys placed 11th. Jeremy Stacy placed 19th for the Squires with a time of 17:51.
Manchester's girls placed 20th. Manchester's Shay Knecht placed 24th with a time of 16:34.
Warsaw's boys team placed 12th out of 22 teams with 313 points. Warsaw's David Hoffert finished 31st with a time of 17:12. LaPorte won the Class AA boys race with 87 points.
Warsaw's girls team placed 25th out of 26 teams with 658 points. Warsaw's Summer Boyd placed 61st with a time of 17:02. Chesterton won the Class AA girls race with 57 points.
Both Triton teams have a 4:30 p.m. Thursday meet at LaVille.
Both Manchester teams host Southwood at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

At Indianapolis, Warsaw went 0-4 on Saturday in the tough Ben Davis Invitational.
Warsaw lost to Martinsville 15-3, 9-15, 15-9, Muncie Burris 15-0, 15-5, Jennings County 15-6, 15-7 and Carmel 15-7, 15-11.
Nancy Mason had 11 kills and 11 digs in the tournament and Karla Bailey had 43 assists and five aces.

Valley Volleyball Invitational
At Mentone, Valley went 3-0 at the first ever Valley Volleyball Invitational, pushing the Vikings towards a number of milestones.
Valley improved to 9-10 on the year, just one win short of the school record set in both 1977 and 1988. The school has also had just one winning season in school history, in 1976 (9-8).
Valley defeated Maconaquah 15-0, 15-3 and Fremont 15-6, 14-16, 15-7. In the Vikings last match of the day, they defeated Norwell 7-15, 15-10, 15-8.
Against Maconaquah, Brandy Manns had four kills and four blocks.
Against Fremont, Andria Parker had 13 kills, three blocks and eight digs. Carissa Parker was 19 for 19 serving with 14 points. Rhonda Doud provided 27 assists.
Doud added 10 points and 27 assists against Norwell and Parker had 11 kills, six blocks and nine digs.
Valley (9-10) will be at Argos tonight.
Wawasee Volleyball Invitational
At Syracuse, Wawasee placed second out of eight teams and Whitko finished third on Saturday at the Wawasee Volleyball Invitational.
Whitko lost to Columbia City, before defeating Bethany Christian and Wabash in pool play. In the third place match, the Wildcats defeated Elkhart Baptist 15-9, 15-12.
Wawasee defeated CGA, Elkhart Baptist and Garrett in pool play before losing to Columbia City 16-14, 10-15, 15-12 in the championship.
Lydia Carpenter and Kara Mathew made the all tournament team for Wawasee and Kelly Osborn was selected from Whitko.
Whitko will host Oak Hill today at 6 p.m. Wawasee will be at Warsaw on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Manchester At Elmhurst Invitational
At Fort Wayne, Manchester placed second overall at the Elmhurst Invitational on Saturday, going 3-1 on the day.
Manchester defeated Angola, DeKalb and Churubusco, but lost to Elmhurst in the championship 15-4, 15-7.
Megan Eckert had four aces and 34 assists. Luciana Leao had 24 kills and nine digs. Jodie Peden had 10 blocks, eight digs and six kills.
Manchester (14-8) will host Rochester tonight at 6 p.m.
Triton Over Caston 15-3, 15-5
At Fulton, Jena Weissert had six kills and Megan Sarber had five kills and four aces as Triton cruised to an easy victory on Saturday.
Manchester (15-3) will be at LaVille on Tuesday.

NorthWood, Wawasee At Warsaw JV Tournament
Ryan Kreager won at No. 1 singles for the Tigers as Warsaw won the eight team tournament on Saturday.
Kreager defeated Walt Fales at No. 1 singles 8-4 in the championship. NorthWood ended second overall and Wawasee ended tied for fifth.
