Warsaw Boys Soccer Team To Forfeit Games

Posted
According to a press released received from Warsaw Community Schools, the Warsaw Community High School Athletic Department discovered near the end of the 2012 regular season in boys soccer, a transfer request for a student-athlete had not been completed in its entirety by the Athletic Department and finalized by the Indiana High School Athletic Association.
The IHSAA by-laws stipulate in rule 19-3, “A student who transfers to a member school shall be ineligible to participate in interschool athletics for a period of 365 days after enrollment, unless and until the IHSAA Athletic Transfer Report shall have been ruled on by the Commissioner, or the Commissioner’s designee.”
When the error was identified, WCHS immediately contacted the IHSAA both to ensure that the mistake was brought to their attention and to ensure the eligibility of the student-athlete was acted upon.
Despite the eligibility of the student-athlete being affirmed and the young man declared eligible by the IHSAA to participate, due to the fact that he played in varsity contests prior to the actual approval, WCHS will be required to forfeit a number of victories (9) for the 2012 season. Schools impacted by the forfeiture of contests will be notified this week.
The WCHS Athletic Department is taking full responsibility for the error and is making safeguards and changes in procedure to ensure that this error does not repeat itself. Our Boys Soccer Team moves on to Sectional competition without error.
The IHSAA commended the administration of WCHS for reporting the violation.
