NAPPANEE – Warsaw’s boys track team completed an undefeated Northern Lakes Conference season with an 81-51 win over NorthWood and a 102-30 win over Plymouth at Andrews Field Wednesday evening. First-place finishers for Warsaw were Daniel Messenger in the 800, Owen Glogovsky in the 3200, Ross Armey in the 300 hurdles, Luke Wilson on the high jump, Rashaan Jackson in the long jump, Dylan Childers in the shot put and Andrew Scheidt in the discus. The 4x100 relay team of Rane Kilburn, Brock Riley, Will McGarvey and Brandon Reinholt won, as did the 4x800 relay team of Trent Thompson, Nick Adams, Jon Beres and T.J. Day. Runners-up were Jaceb Burish in the discus, Ben Plummer in the shot, Brock Riley in the high jump. Caleb Klusman in the 110 hurdles, Landan Perry in the 400 and Kilburn in the 100. Third-place finishers were McGarvey in the 200, Glogovsky in the 1600, Joseph Harness in the high jump, Lucas Cone in the pole vault, Tommy Hickerson in the long jump, and Childers in the discus. The Tigers host the Northern Lakes Conference meet on Tuesday at Fisher Field.
Wednesday in Goshen J.J. Gilmer was a double winner in the high jump and long jump, and Clayton Cook did likewise in the 110 hurdles and the 200 in Wawasee’s losses to Northridge (68-64) and Goshen (93-39). The duo teamed with Cole VanLue and Tyler Courter to take the 4x100 relay as well. Next up for the Warriors is the Northern Lakes Conference meet in Warsaw on Tuesday. Softball Wednesday in South Whitley Aly Nicodemus was the winning picher, allowing only one hit and striking out six in Whitko’s 14-1, five-inning win over Wabash. The Lady Wildcats scored all four times they came to bat, and every starter reached base at least once. An eight-run second inning put some distance between the two squads. Whitko will play at Fort Wayne-Wayne this afternoon.
Wednesday in Syracuse Meghan Fretz, taking over officially for Amber Lemberg as Wawasee’s No. 1 pitcher, pitched a complete game and struck out 11 in the Lady Warriors’ 11-1, six inning win over Warsaw. Fretz also homered in the contest, with Cristina DeLaFuente and Allissa Flores adding doubles to Wawasee’s 10-hit attack. Sarah Shoemaker had a hit and a stolen base for the Lady Tigers, and Karly Jones singles and drove in the long Warsaw run. Lauren Shaffner doubled as well. According to Wawasee head coach Jared Knipper, Lemberg will be sidelined for the rest of the season with a torn ACL. The Lady Warriors remained unbeaten in the Northern Lakes Conference at 8-0, and moved to 11-1 overall. They will host Elkhart Memorial on Friday. Warsaw fell to 2-11 overall, and 2-6 in the NLC.
