Warsaw Baseball Team Loses Two At Annual Tiger Tourney

At its annual Tiger Tourney Saturday, the Warsaw baseball team dropped a 9-2 decision to Penn, then fell 10-9 against DeKalb.
Against the Penn Kingsmen, the Warsaw Tigers generated just four hits, but one was a double off the bat of Brandon Shipp and Jason Ferguson posted an RBI and a run.
Looking to get even on the day, Kevin Hawley took the mound against DeKalb, and pitched five innings, before leaving after the fifth inning with a 6-3 lead.
Warsaw increased its lead to 7-3 before DeKalb plated three in the eighth, but Warsaw tacked on another two in the bottom of the frame, leading to a 9-6 Tigers lead going into the final inning.
In the top of the seventh, DeKalb scored four runs on four hits and a walked batter, getting the comeback win and ending Warsaw’s regular season with a 12-14 record.
Ferguson was 3 for 3 in the loss, scoring two runs and driving in one, while Michael Miller hit a home run and a double, driving in two runs.
In the championship game, Fort Wayne Snider defeated Penn 6-5 in 13 innings at Grace College’s Miller Field.
Up next for Warsaw is Saturday’s Sectional 4 semifinal game against the host Elkhart Memorial Chargers.
During the regular season, Warsaw defeated Memorial 10-0 on April 29 at home, then 6-1 Thursday in Elkhart.

Saturday in LaGrange
The Class 3A No. 8 Whitko baseball team split a doubleheader at Prairie Heights Saturday. In the opener, Prairie Heights nabbed a 7-3 victory, but Whitko won the second 9-6. Whitko hosts Bethany Christian today.

At Lakeland Saturday, the Wawasee baseball team gave up a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh, losing 6-5. In the loss, Donovan Navarro was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Wawasee is at West Noble.

Saturday in Lakeville
The Manchester baseball team closed out its regular season with a pair of wins over LaVille Saturday in Lakeville. Manchester opened the doubleheader with a 7-5 victory in eight innings, with Evan Olinger posting three hits and three RBIs, followed by another eight-inning victory, this time by an 8-5 count in Game 2. In the second game, Thad Miller and Phoenix Goad each had three hits. The doubleheader closes out Manchester’s regular season at 4-18. The Squires face Wabash Wednesday in the opening game of Sectional 37 at Wabash High School.

Saturday in Wabash
Played at Honeywell Golf Course Saturday, the host Wabash boys golf team claimed the Wabash Invitational with a 326, while Warsaw’s junior varsity team was second with a 334. Wabash’s Jordan Blair was the medalist with a 73, while Warsaw’s Ryan Cultice was tied for second, shooting a 79 on the par-71 course. Manchester was sixth at the seven-team tournament, shooting a 383. Manchester is at Peru Thursday, while Warsaw’s varsity team hosts the Bob Turner Classic today at the Tippecanoe Lake Country Club.
