Warsaw Arby’s locations are joining forces to hold a food drive for Our Father’s House.

The food drive begins Monday and continues until July 15 at Arby’s, 3358 Lake City Highway, and at 1980 N. Detroit St.

Food drop-off times at the Lake City Highway location are Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to midnight. Drop-off times at the Detroit Street location are Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Needed items are peanut butter and jelly, cans of tuna fish, hamburger helper noodles, spaghetti sauce and noodles, canned soups and food and garden vegetables.

There will be donation boxes inside each store to donate food items.

Those who donate food to Our Father’s House will receive $1 off of a combo meal at both Arby’s locations, according to Wendy Nicholson, Arby’s Lake City Highway manager.

Arby’s manager Wendy Nicholson said she came up with the idea to hold a food drive after talking with volunteers from Our Father’s House. Arby’s owner William Aguilar agreed a food drive would be a good idea.

Aguilar said he is a big believer in helping those less fortunate, and is glad to support the work Our Father’s House does.

“The volunteers said this is their lean period in the summer, and they need food items,” Nicholson said. “I grew up here and have seen our community is growing, but we still have the small-town mentality of helping others when they are in need.”

Chris Polk, Arby’s general manager, said Arby’s does whatever it can to help out the community.

Drew Krichbaum, Our Father’s House events coordinator, said the food drive is greatly appreciated.

“We have been working with Arby’s for a long time and they are great to work with,” Krichbaum said.

He said with school being out in the summer, there is a greater need to serve the youth in the community and their families.

“We see kids coming in everyday with their families  for food services,” Krichbaum said.

Krichbaum said Our Father’s House serves free lunches to those in need in its dining room from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

A food pantry also is offered for people to come to once a week on those same days from 1:30 to 5 p.m.

Krichbaum said there are 250 people being served currently in the dining room per week and donations are greatly appreciated.
