Warsaw Among Area Volleyball Teams To Lose At Sectional

MIDDLEBURY — The Warsaw volleyball team had its postseason run end before it was expected to Saturday at Northridge High School. Matched up with five-time defending sectional champion Elkhart Memorial in Saturday’s semifinal, Warsaw fell in four games 27-25, 18-25, 25-23, 25-22. It appeared Warsaw was on its way to its first sectional crown since 2004 when it defeated Memorial 25-22, 19-25, 21-25, 25-15, 15-12 on Aug. 23 in Elkhart, ending the Crimson Chargers’ 76-match winning streak in the Northern Lakes Conference. Memorial went on to finish its regular season at 16-17, but showed its not to be taken lightly, advancing to Tuesday’s regional against No. 6 Penn at Elkhart Memorial after defeating Northridge 25-17, 25-21, 25-12 in the sectional title match. In her final prep match, Jamie Lacheta led the Lady Tigers with 30 kills, with junior Emily Poe posting 11 and sophomore Katie Voelz getting 10. Also for Warsaw, Lacheta had three aces and Voelz had 2 blocks, while senior Chloe Hubner finished with 43 assists and senior Alex Sanchez recorded 16 digs. ELKHART MEMORIAL DEF. Saturday in Culver
After downing Argos in the Class 1A Sectional 51 at Culver Community High School Saturday, the Triton volleyball team fell to Michigan City Marquette Catholic in the night’s championship match. In their 25-19, 25-8, 25-12 semifinal win over Argos, Triton was led by Shana Anderson’s 10 kills, Emilee Koontz’s five aces and Holly Stogsdill’s seven digs. In the 25-14, 25-20, 25-14 championship loss to Marquette, Anderson and Breanna Lemler each had five kills, while Marissa Ross had 10 assists and Koontz posted 11 digs. TRITON DEF. At Saturday’s Class 2A Sectional 37, the Manchester volleyball team fell in three games (25-8, 25-15, 25-15) to Oak Hill in the semifinals at Southwood High School.
